Materials for our Headwear

Our functional Eisbär headwear is characterized by high-quality, high-performance, and innovative materials. Choosing the right material is crucial for comfort and performance in sports headwear.

All the materials we use offer high wearing comfort, optimal protection, breathability, and effective temperature regulation. We combine natural fibers such as merino wool or cotton with modern functional fibers like Coolmax® or Dryarn®.

This way, our functional beanies ensure that you, as an athlete and outdoor enthusiast, enjoy movement even more – whether during sports or other outdoor activities, in summer or winter.

What are Active Knit & Active Mesh?

Active Knit is the 3-layer knitting technology developed and patented by Eisbär in Austria. It was created in collaboration with scientists and athletes and ensures optimal moisture management. Over the years, the technology has been continuously further developed and is now technically mature. With this technology, Eisbär underscores its expertise not only as a beanie expert but also as an innovative knitting company from Austria.

The three perfectly coordinated layers ensure a particularly dry feeling even under heavy strain. The first layer wicks sweat away from the skin, the second absorbs and distributes it. The third layer allows for evaporation and protects against cold.

Our special zone technology, with ventilation zones on the forehead and neck, supports natural cooling.

With Active Mesh, we are further developing the knitting technology of Active Knit. Thanks to new yarn compositions and revised knitting techniques, Active Mesh is particularly well-suited for active sports. It regulates body temperature and wicks away moisture.

Active Knit is suitable for trail running and other sports activities throughout the year, but especially during transitional seasons. The material is particularly well-suited for temperatures between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius. Active Mesh, on the other hand, is ideal for outdoor activities in warm and higher temperatures.

With its innovative cooling technology with Triple-Chill™ Effect, brrr° cools and lowers your skin temperature instantly and permanently. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities and sports in hot summer temperatures, allowing you to enjoy your athletic pursuits even in the heat.

What's special about brrr°: Its Triple-Chill™ Effect, which consists of cooling minerals, active moisture wicking, and fast drying. This combination ensures that moisture is efficiently wicked away, keeping your skin comfortably dry.

The cooling effect of brrr° is retained throughout the entire lifespan of the textile, as the cooling technology is permanently embedded in the yarn structure.

What is Dryarn®?

The ultralight Dryarn® material weighs less than wool and polyester, thus ensuring a high level of wearing comfort. Its insulating and breathable structure wicks moisture away from the skin and ensures a dry feeling – even during intense exertion. The Dryarn® fiber keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, making it suitable for a variety of sports.

Thanks to its high moisture transport, Dryarn® ensures a dry feel. The material also reduces sweat odor.

What Is 100% Merino?

Merino wool is a pure, sustainable natural fiber for maximum functionality and comfort. It consists of 100% merino wool and is therefore not a blended fiber.

Merino regulates body temperature naturally: it warms in the cold and is breathable in the heat. It absorbs moisture very well and then releases it outwards. It absorbs up to 30% of its weight without feeling damp. Merino wool is soft, comfortable to wear and does not cause a "scratchy effect".

100% merino wool is suitable for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, for hiking and trekking, as well as for (trail) running in cooler temperatures. Merino is also ideal for mountaineering and other outdoor activities.

What is Merino Mix 50?

Our Merino Mix 50 consists of 50% merino wool and 50% polyacrylic, making it functional and suitable for everyday use.

While merino wool provides warmth, ensures natural breathability, and regulates body temperature, polyacrylic complements these benefits with its easy care, shape retention, and durability. It makes the material long-lasting, quick-drying, and particularly easy to clean.

The Merino Mix 50 feels soft against the skin – for high wearing comfort.

The Merino Mix 50 warms and regulates body temperature. Thanks to the polyacrylic content, the beanies are dimensionally stable and easy to clean.

The Merino Mix 50 is ideal for cold days, transitional seasons and cool summer days in the mountains or in the city. Merino Mix 50 is ideal for activities in moderate to cool conditions. The fabric is functional for sports, uncomplicated for everyday wear and comfortable for daily use.

What Is Nylon?

Nylon is a polyamide, meaning it's a synthetic fiber known for its high durability and elasticity, and it's very lightweight. Thanks to its robust structure, nylon is particularly abrasion-resistant and long-lasting, while also offering good breathability and flexibility.

Nylon primarily provides durability and elasticity in headwear. The material makes beanies resistant to abrasion and intensive use, while remaining flexible and adapting well to the shape of the head. This ensures that hats remain durable and retain their shape.

Nylon is suitable year-round for many outdoor sports where clothing is subjected to heavy use. Typical areas of application include trail running, hiking, trekking, climbing, and winter sports.

What is Ecovero™?

Ecovero™ is a sustainable viscose fiber that is lightweight and has a silky soft feel. It is made from cellulose – the natural main component of wood.

Thanks to Lenzing™'s resource-saving manufacturing process, the production of Ecovero™ fibers results in at least 50% less water consumption and CO₂ emissions compared to conventional viscose. The wood used comes from certified and controlled sources. In addition, Ecovero™ fiber has been awarded the EU Ecolabel.
